In collaboration with the Kenneth Rainin Foundation, will present the world premiere of Skateboarding Through Bardo, a theatrical play set in Potrero del Sol Park, as part of the Festival of Altars happening on November 2nd, 2024, during the San Francisco’s Day of the Dead celebrations. This play narrates the journey of Latinx skateboarders who have joined the spirit world as they enter the Bardos and transition into their next life. Inspired by the Tibetan Book of The Dead, this story captures the challenges of being caught between worlds and the expansion that happens when they access their consciousness through the lenses of compassion and understanding.

Owen Velez
(he/him)

  •  Owen Velez is an early childhood educator, activist, organizer, and legal rights advocate. Mr. Velez currently serves on the executive board of the childcare planning and advisory council of San Francisco and was recently elected to the state-wide bargaining team of the CCPU-UDW childcare union local 3930. The board of supervisors has recognized his activism and support of San Francisco families via certificates of honor. His business has been featured on Telemundo. And by the children’s council for their work and supporting essential workers and their families during the pandemic.

Alberto Rodriguez (He/Him)

  • Alberto Rodriguez is a Venezuelan immigrant, cajón player and day laborer who uses music as a source of empowerment, and resilience through difficult times. He considers life to be sacred and hopes that his music inspires others to find strength and hope. Alberto plays the cajón and sings in Inti Mystica.

Javier

Arturo Mendez-Reyes (He/They)

  • Arturo Mendez-Reyes is a Mexican immigrant, award-winning producer, and community organizer in the Mission District of San Francisco. He is the co-founder of various community projects, including Arts.Co.Lab, Urban Prophets Illustrated  Inti Mystica, where he enjoys the musical exploration of string instruments -guitar, ukulele, jarana, and bass- and the creation of powerful riffs and healing lyrics for the celebration of community.

Rasul Grayson
(he/him)

  • Rasul Grayson, born and raised in San Francisco, has witnessed the city’s transformation. He believes that the exploitation of resources and culture has distorted its traditions. To combat this oppression, Rasul advocates for empowering the community by preserving the past, strengthening the present, and reshaping the future. Music is his tool for amplifying his narrative, offering the power to present and shape experiences from a personal perspective. His primary instruments are the saxophone and soul/funk guitar, but he also plays the flute, bass, and drums.

Sennyo Ookami (He/Him)

  • Sennyo Ookami (Lenel Guzmán) is a  Venzuelan Chicano, born in Venezuela. Guzman is a painter, composer,  visual storyteller and cultural producer who has created graphic novels and illustrations for years. He spent several years studying theater and is passionate about connecting communities by sharing narratives based on mythology and indigenous knowledge. Guzman’s musical storytelling spans over ten years and has brought dozens of creatives together to make international music and storytelling accessible to communities in Venezuela and San Francisco.

Tine Joy

  • Tine Joy, an interdisciplinary creative from San Francisco, is a curator of sacred wellness, cultural arts producer, teaching artist, and healing arts facilitator. Rooted in Philippine, Haitian, and Afro-Brazilian folklore, she empowers youth through movement arts and freelances as a designer and media producer. Her work serves community organizations, elevating the collective through visual, written, and embodied storytelling.

    Ilia Correa Sepúlveda, an educator, poet, and musician from Puerto Rico, explores Afro Puerto Rican and Afro Colombian rhythms. She has studied with masters, performing with ensembles like Las Bomberas de la Bahia and creating fusions with Inti Mystica.

Andreína Maldonado

  • Andreína Maldonado, known as Nina Limón, is a performing artist, wellness practitioner, and the founder of BienStar Consulting based in San Francisco, California, and hailing from the Caribbean coast of Venezuela. Working as an interdisciplinary artist, Andreina is renowned for her compelling performances across the mediums of dance, music, and theater, engaging viewers to foster a creative and spiritual connection to each other and their environment. 

INTIMYSTICA

  • INTIMYSTICA is a daring Latin experimental fusion band that defies the limits of indie rock, psychedelic cumbia, and punk, crafting mesmerizing soundscapes that linger in the soul. Known for their electrifying performances at iconic venues like The IndependentSF, The Chapel, and KQED Live, they’ve also brought their energy to local festivals and community gatherings like Carnaval SF and Encuentro del Canto Popular twice!

Lucia Obregon (She/Her)

  • Lucia Obregon  is a queer Guatemalan immigrant residing in San Francisco. She is a singer/songwriter, painter and a community organizer. Her activism is a big influence in her songwriting and is inspired by the stories of resilience from the community in which she serves. Lucia writes songs, sings, and plays percussion in Inti Mystica.

Felipe Gallegos

  • Felipe Gallegos, born in Columbia Bogota in 1996, is a titled architectural engineer currently in the San Francisco Bay Area skateboarding scene. His passions include playing the ukelele and cajon (drum) since childhood while attending family gatherings. His interests include drawing, dancing, fashion design, acting, and swimming. His favorite skateboarding spot is an underground course at Waller. His dream is to help his family live a better life, continue to create music, and dive deeper into the arts.
